Histoire

The womens’ team at RC CMSG was started in September 2005. Recently arrived in Geneva and having just left Bath university where she’d been studying and playing rugby, Nadine McCormick (our now captain) wanted to try and create a womens side in Geneva.

Knowing some of the guys involved in the mens team – she enquired whether it would be possible to get a women’s side together. Who would be interested? The first training session took place in September with just 5 or 6 girls. Most of the basics had yet to be learnt, but there was certainly a lot of enthusiasm and support. Little by little we managed to spread the word about this new team and got ourselves registered into the Swiss women’s rugby league (championnat suisse feminin) under the name CERN féminin.
We handed out flyers and put up posters wherever we could to generate interest hoping to recruit more and more players. Moreover, we even managed to get sponsorship for some team kit. Our efforts soon paid off and we had quite a few girls turning up to try out rugby. Some stayed, some decided it wasn’t for them…but our team gradually grew stronger and stronger, in both numbers and skill.

In September 2006 at the NSRV’s women’s rugby 7s tournament, we finished in 2nd place. A great result for a team a barely year old.

We’re still competing in the Swiss league and in January 2008 underwent a name change to reflect our passion for the game – we became the Wildcats!
